Sponsoring a refugee family

Through Churches Together in Hampstead (CTiH) we at Heath Street have made a commitment to a Home Office procedure by which we can together sponsor a refugee family to come to this area. Our commitment is to find suitable accommodation and a group of volunteers who can welcome the family, help them settle in and offer specific skills, experience and friendship to make sure that each member of the family is able to be absorbed into local life. This might be about having what they need to furnish a home, getting on OK at school, learning or improving English, finding work. There might be special needs in the family to do with disability or illness, or recovering from the experience of conflict and fleeing their home country.

Interested people are invited to the next meeting about this on Saturday 21 April at 2.30 pm at St Mary’s RC Church.

The Parish Church has offered to be the lead in our sponsorship group (they are also sponsoring another family on their own). Heath Street has promised to contribute £1,000 towards the pot which needs to be pledged to show our commitment to the project and to be a sort of 'insurance' for the family’s needs.

Do come to the meeting if you can and see if you can offer time to support our family, when they come. If you would also like to make a contribution to the money needed to help get the family settled, this needs to be sent to St John at Hampstead, by cheque payable to 'Hampstead Parish Church-CTiH' or by bank transfer to the sort code is 40-03-36 and a/c no. 11104004, with the reference 'CTiH' (and if you are a UK taxpayer let them know you want them to claim Gift Aid on your donation).
