Oxford & Cambridge Singing School (19 December 2020)

 Saturday 19 December 2020

We very much hope to be able to host a course on the 19th December 2020 at Heath St. Baptist Church.

We will be adhering to Government Guidance at all times. According to the 'tier' system, which was in operation before lockdown, and is planned for the post-lockdown period, singing is permitted - subject to safeguards being in place. This would enable a course to go ahead before Christmas, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that this will be possible.

We have some wonderful repertoire planned including:

Until the tiering system becomes clearer for December, we request that you do not book a place on the course at this stage, but that you email me on: samantha@oxbridgesingingschool.com so that I can reserve a space for your child or children.

We're determined to add a sprinkle of festive magic where we can, because this year we all need a little magic more than ever.

Should you have any queries in the meantime, please do let me know and we hope to be able to welcome your children to the singing school's Christmas course next month.

Very best wishes,
Samantha Wickham & the Oxford & Cambridge Singing school team

Q&A - How it will work for the Christmas course

Is Singing allowed?
Yes! Studies were conducted over the summer and indicated that singing was no more risky in spreading Covid than many of the things we do every day.

What about social distancing?
Children will be spaced 2 metres apart, all facing forward. We are fortunate that Heath St. Baptist church is very large, with a number of separate spaces. Children aged 11 and over will be required to wear a face-mask when not singing.

What about arrival and departure times?
Participants will be asked to arrive and depart at staggered times, exact timings of which will be confirmed nearer the time.

All these government new rules, how will you make this fun?
We have some wonderful music planned and we ran a socially distanced course in Cambridge this summer which was very successful. There's always lots we can do to make the course joyous.

What about touching surfaces or shared items?
We ask all children to bring in a nut free packed lunch, plus two snacks. Each participant will receive their own pack of music, which will be theirs to keep.

Wellness on the Course
All children must be well to attend. Temperatures will be taken on arrival, all children will be asked to sanitize their hands as soon as they arrive and to wash their hands regularly throughout the day.

Who will lead the course?
The course will be led by our Creative Director, Dr Edward Wickham, Director of Music at St Catharine's College, Cambridge.
