Heath Street Baptist church is launching a new children’s choir! We are starting a choir for children ages 7-12 which we hope will be at the heart of our life as a musically diverse and celebrating church.
We aim to provide musical enrichment through singing together repertoire drawn from folk, gospel and classical traditions. Choir members will learn songs by ear as well as learn the basics of reading from music notation.
There will be opportunities for choir members to gain experience performing in public through singing at community events and occasional church services. If they play an instrument already we will look for ways to encourage them in that journey. We can also arrange instrumental tuition with professional musicians for children interested in taking up a new instrument.
We hope to encourage children in their musical, social and spiritual journey with opportunities for sharing music in our services as well as collaborating with the various professional ensembles who are supported by the church.
The choir will particularly suit children who already play an instrument and / or who display some natural musical aptitude, however there is no audition requirement.
